General information

Background: This nine to 13 community middle school, serving the full ability range opened in September 1973. Its catchment area covers Wimborne and Merley and the surrounding villages. The school moved into its present building in March 2003. The new building contains up-to-date specialist accommodation for music, art, science, ICT and the three technology areas of food, textiles and resident materials and a sports hall. The area around the school was also re-developed. There is a play area which is also used for netball and tennis and field used for soccer, rugby, athletics, cricket, volleyball and rounder, with adequate changing and shower facilities. There is also a large garden and a greenhouse, which are both used by the children. There is a very fine tradition of additional activities beyond the normal curriculum being offered at the school. These add enormously to the overall development of pupils, and normally include sporting, musical, dramatic, creative and leisure interests. The school aims to create an environment in which it helps pupils develop a responsible understanding of the world in which they live and interdependence of individuals, groups and nations.
