General information
Background: St Mary's CE Primary was founded in 1855 and moved to its present location in 1991. Surrounding a central courtyard, the one-storey buildings consist of four self-contained base areas with their own playgrounds and a shared library. There is a purpose-built reception area, a large hall, a studio and an ICT suite. The school has range of playing fields and is next to the leisure centre. This is a two-form entry school. There is an after-school club which can be used on a regular or occasional basis, and which is a great help to working parents. Extra-curricular activities include French, dance, craft, gardening, recorder club, a band and choir. In addition, pupils have the option of learning a string, brass or woodwind instrument. The school organises and runs in the annual Bridport and West Bay 10 and six kilometre runs which last year attracted 700 runners. Year 6 performed an annual musical at the Bridport Arts Centre. The school has also won the Kenway football cup and the West Dorset netball tournament. There is St Mary?s School Association which organises fundraising, social and educational events throughout the year. The school aims to provide a happy, stimulating learning environment for all its children. .
