General information

Background: We are a small and caring co-educational school set in the heart of the county town of Dorchester. The school was founded in 1947 and incorporated into White Swallow Education in 1999. There are buildings with En-suite facilities, year around provision, structured, fun and stimulated program, separate playground for early Years children, music, physical and academic education through play.

Inspection: October 2002: Dorchester Preparatory School is a co-educational preparatory school for pupils aged three to thirteen. Following a change in management, resources and premises have been much improved and the curriculum broadened. The school is successful in the work it does with the under fives and in preparing pupils for entrance tests and examinations to independent schools at the age of thirteen. Pupils needing learning support are also well served. Pupils enjoy coming to school and feel happy and secure. The school is well led, the staff are committed and hard-working and standards of behaviour are good. The overall quality of education provided has many good features, but some important aspects need improvement, in particular staff development, curriculum management, assessment and recording..
