General information
Background: Founded in 1859; moved in 1872 to its present premises, a chapel that continued to be used for Sunday worship for many years; since 1962, the building has been redesigned, with extensions including a library, craft, design and technology unit, and modern toilet blocks. Expanding school population resulted in construction of a conservatory-style classroom extension in 1999; half an acre of land provides a playing field. Most live in the villages of Melplash, Netherbury and Salway Ash, travelling to school by bus. The curriculum is taught mainly via group work, although individual work and class teaching are also used where appropriate. The school offers music and games activities; all children can participate in swimming lessons for a small fee. DfES achievement award.
