General information
Background: The Woodroffe School was the brain-child of Alban J. Woodroffe, who, in 1932 supervised the construction of the original building on the magnificent hillside site overlooking the harbour town of Lyme Regis. For the first 30 years the school was a small mixed grammar school. In 1962 it was reorganised into an 11-18 mixed comprehensive school. A major building programme has recently been completed. This has provided a state of the art drama studio, a superb sports hall and fitness suite, new accommodation for art and design and refurbished accommodation for design technology and science. The school is a Visual Arts College having gained specialist status in 2003. It has a flourishing sixth form. Extra-curricular activities are extensive. Sporting and musical elements are strong and drama productions take place on a regular basis. The school has a Combined Cadet Force and it also operates the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The school aims to provide a caring atmosphere in which stable relationships can be formed and which encourage the pursuit of excellence. .
