General information
Background: Young?s Endowed School is a Church of England, Voluntary Aided Primary School for girls and boys aged from four to 11 years. The Voluntary Aided status means that, as well as being maintained by the Dorset Education Authority, the also receive support from the Diocese of Salisbury. The school was first built in 1861 and additional buildings were added in 1976 following the closure of Nether Compton School. A further extension called the Fisher Room was added in 1995 to provide the children with a practical area for Art, Craft and Technology. The school teaches the whole range of subjects that form the National Curriculum at Key Stages 1 and 2. This covers the vital skills of literacy, numeracy, science and information technology and in order to broaden the children's experiences, the curriculum includes creative and expressive arts, humanities, physical and religious education. The timetable has been arranged so that all children participate in one hour of literacy and one hour of numeracy each day.
