General information

Background: Opened 70 years ago, Twynham recently became a comprehensive for pupils aged 11 to 19 and also acquired technology college status. Many new buildings have been added since its inception including a very powerful and accessible learning resource centre. A new creative arts building is about to be erected, although the greatest need for the school now is a new sports hall. The school is set in pleasant grounds close to the centre of Christ Church and the Rivers Avon and Stow. Due to its technology college status the school enjoys large-scale ICT facilities, which are used by every faculty, and it also claims strengths both across the curriculum and in extra-curricular activities. These include the creative arts and the school has a drama group, an art group and numerous, outlets for musical talents. The school has also achieved particular success in rugby, netball, soccer, athletics and cross-country, and students are encouraged to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. It also encourages field trips, both locally, in Europe and further afield. The school aims to provide a safe and pleasant environment for effective learning. .
