General information
Background: Founded in 1931 by the Marist brothers, the school moved to its current site in 1961 and became comprehensive in 1968. The current building was refurbished in 1999 and adjacent sports grounds offer facilities for football, rugby, hockey and athletics. Information and computer technology (ICT) access is available for all subjects and there is a well-developed school library. Sports clubs operate at lunch time and after school, and there have been successes in debating competitions nationally. Musical activities include a band, an orchestra and a choir. The school has strong links with the community, employers and external agencies. Resources are available for pupils with special educational needs (SEN), and access for wheelchairs is also offered. The school is over-subscribed by 11 per cent and the ethos involves a strong sense of family based on the Marist tradition.
