General information
Background: Aycliffe Village is a four to 11 county primary school situated in the south of county Durham. The present school was opened in 1970 and occupies land behind the village hall. The building is semi-open plan. A spacious hall in the centre of the school is flanked by two classrooms used for Key Stage 1 and three classrooms for Key Stage 2. Both parts of the school have fully resourced shared areas for activities such as art, craft, technology, ICT and additional support such as group reading. The school has extensive and beautiful grounds. There is a large field used for games, an enclosed tarmac playground, a pond area and a well-maintained garden. The school provides a range of extra-curricular activities for pupils at various times during the school year. These include football, judo, fencing, choir, guitar, recorder and French. Pupils also benefit from the specialist music tuition provided by the peripatetic music service. The school is proud of its links with local business and institutions which helps to provide the breadth of experiences needed for children growing up in the present technological age. The school aims to provide a happy, caring, secure and stimulating environment where all feel valued and are encouraged to learn and develop to their full potential in every area of life.
