General information

Background: Teesdale dates from the 1960s and is situated at the edge of the market town of Barnard Castle. It draws its pupils from a wide area of southwest Durham and has a catchment area of 300 square miles. Most specialist classrooms are based on the main prospect place site although the school also has a technology annexe about half a mile away. The school gives great emphasis to the development of ICT and enjoys good facilities, which are also available for community use. Other curriculum strengths include mathematics, business studies, music and drama, ICT, art and physical education. A full range of indoor and outdoor sports are included in the extra-curricular programme together with several music groups, drama and other clubs. The school is particularly strong in cross-country championships, providing several county representatives each year. The school is developing a programme of community education classes and is a member of the Teesdale Local Learning Partnership which charities to support and recently raised substantial funds for the local children?s hospice. The school is designated as a specialist science college and want all the students to enjoy their experiences of learning in the school. The theme of science acts across the wide curriculum. The school aims to provide a positive, safe and stimulating environment, which inspires an enthusiasm for learning.
