General information

Background: Featherstone High School has undergone significant changes over the last few years. The most important of these has been a building programme completed in 1996 to house the school on one site at Montague Waye. The school is a DfES designated specialist school for sport. Its sports facilities partly funded by the Sports Lottery Fund and local sponsors are outstanding. The school enjoys outstanding ICT facilities with well above the average number of computers per pupil. On-line programmes are used by the mathematics department to provide individual learning programmes, and information and communication technology (ICT) is taught as a vocational GCSE. All pupils complete a qualification in physical education at the end of Year 11. There are numerous after-school and holiday programmes for pupils to take part in throughout the year as well as many teams to compete with. Visits to museums, places of worship and areas of local interest are part of the teaching. Pupils also have the opportunity to go out to theatres, art galleries and concerts to extend their knowledge. Science facilities have been upgraded in 2002 and 2003. In recognition of its achievements the school is one of the first Leading Edge Schools in the country. The school promotes high standards of achievement for all students in a caring and respectful community, which seeks to provide the foundation of a lifetime of learning.
