General information

Background: Greenwood Primary School was formed by the amalgamation of Greenwood First and Middle Schools in 1993. It comprises two buildings: the nursery/infant department and the junior department. A nursery class was opened in spring 1989. The nursery building was purpose built, with its own fenced playground and area of grass and mature trees, which borders onto the infant playground. The infant building was constructed in 1975 with the main structure on partially open-plan lines together with some traditional classrooms. The classrooms and two halls occupy a single-storey building built around a garden quadrangle. Specialist rooms include a science laboratory, music room, art room, home economics room and a computer room. The school has its own natural garden area. It encourages children to develop leisure activities and interests. Clubs for children of all abilities include (dependent on age) gymnastics, bridge, art, drama, computer, gardening football, netball, tennis, cricket and athletics. These take place during the lunch break and after school. The school aims is to provide a happy and industrious atmosphere where each child is encouraged to achieve their potential, by stimulating their enthusiasm for learning and a determination to succeed.
