General information

Background: The school was founded in 1954, following a campaign led by Councillor Ross. Pupils are accommodated in a main building. An extension, a craft, design and technology block and two mobile classrooms were added. Conveniently located just behind the town centre, pupils also benefit from large open outdoor games areas, social areas, and a very pleasant walkway to the school entrance. Current curriculum strengths include English, geography, craft design, graphic communication, music and modern languages. The school's extra-curricular activities vary from sports and drama to homework and curriculum support. Each year the pupil council selects two charities to benefit from various fund-raising events. Senior pupils are encouraged to become involved in assisting their juniors and others represent the school and their peers through community and regional bodies. Pupils with special educational needs (SEN) gain their education in both the learning support suite and mainstream classes. The school has made significant advances using the 'Fast Track' reading scheme and 'Successmaker'. The school's ethos is based on a deep caring of young people harnessed by firm support.
