General information

Background: Originally opened as six-year comprehensive in August 1978, with main building dating from 1938. New state-of-the-art school opened in August 2006: more than 45 classrooms, each fitted with interactive whiteboards; new sports facilities, including Astroturf hockey pitches and running track; BBC Standard Video editing studio, drama studios and music practice rooms. Built around a central 'street' area, with separate Gallery Café. Pupils develop interests and talents through variety of extra-curricular activities, including chess club, choral singing, debating society, drama club, ICT club, public speaking, school bands/orchestra, the Asian Students' Association, and Scripture Union. Sports enthusiasts can take part in aerobics, athletics, badminton, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, hill-climbing, gymnastics, riding, mountain biking, skiing, table tennis, tennis and windsurfing; district and national representatives. Recent examples of pupils' musical success include playing in National Youth Orchestra and Scottish Opera. Senior pupils regularly participate in World Team Challenge expeditions to Africa and South America. Strong community links; fundraising for local and national charities; active School Board.
