Background: Founded in 1959, the school building was previously a private house with three acres of ground. In a rural setting on a main London rail link, Bricklehurst provides a home-like, safe environment and produces successful, confident, well-balanced children. French, tennis, drama and swimming are offered in addition to the national curriculum and Spanish can be taken as an option. All pupils learn the recorder and piano, cello, violin, flute and guitar are also offered. Pupils raise money for various charities and has links in the community, such as old people in sheltered housing. More than half the pupils now learn a musical instrument. The school aims to provide a happy environment for all the children so that it can help them grow naturally and successfully into confident, well-balanced, self-disciplined and considerate individuals who are aware of their responsibilities within a community.

Inspection: June 2001: 'Bricklehurst Manor is a very good school. The standards achieved overall are well above national expectations. The quality of the teaching and learning is generally good to very good. The headmistress and the staff very successfully promote a family atmosphere in which all ages mix easily and share responsibilities. The setting of the school and the good use of the grounds promote wide educational and informal activities for all.
