General information

Background: The school is situated approximately half a mile out of the village of Buxted on the Uckfield Road. It occupies a 'large and pleasant' site with 'outstanding' views of the surrounding countryside. The main building dates from 1857 and includes three classrooms, a library, a resource room and a playroom. The other two classes are housed in temporary buildings on the school field pending new building work, due to be completed in March 2002. The new building will provide an extension to the main building and will incorporate two new classrooms, a hall and offices. Children are organised into year groups for numeracy and literacy through the provision of additional teaching support, and there is additional teaching support for music and special needs. Children benefit from a wide range of experiences to enrich their education, including visits and a residential outdoor pursuits week for older children. The school has a 'strong tradition' of sporting success. It also offers a range of musical tuition through the County Music Service and takes part in a number of concerts and festivals. There is a wide variety of clubs, both sporting and non-sporting. The school belongs to the Village Schools Association, a group of ten local schools, and to the Crowborough and Wadhurst District Primary Schools Sports Association. It has strong links with the local church. The parent teacher association provides excellent support fo the school, organising a range of fund-raising and social events for children and parents. .
