Background: Cumnor House School moved during the war from Croydon, as a proprietorial school, to its present country location near Danehill in 1948. Since 1988 it has been an educational trust The school is in the process of improving and developing its facilities. This school is on one site which extends to 62 acres, incorporating a small pond, lake and many acres of woodland and pasture. The pond and lake are excellent curriculum resources although they are potential hazards. Recent developments have been: a new kitchen with a room above; extension to the dining room; new laundry and domestic facilities; upgrading to the boys? changing rooms; completion of a new boarding wing. Provision for games and activities is generally good with pitches, tennis courts, gymnasium and outdoor heated swimming pool. The school?s development plan aims to provide a covered swimming pool, new pitches and improved drainage to existing pitches. Changing facilities for boys are in good decorative order, clean and tidy. The girls? changing rooms, although satisfactory, are to be refurbished. Three physical education lessons were observed as well as boys? and girls? games. .
Inspection: March 2003: ?Cumnor House School is a well-managed school and overall makes good provision for its pupils. Pupils are happy. They relate naturally to each other and to all the staff, developing self-confidence that is reflected in a positive attitude to school life. The staff shows corporation and willing commitment in providing very good pastoral care and welfare for the pupils. Good teaching allows pupils to make commendable progress in all subjects. Significant improvements introduced by the head, who has been in post for a short time, have moved the school forward effectively. The full effect of all these changes is not yet complete.?.
