General information

Headteacher: Veronica Tupholme.

Background: In a pastoral setting on the edge of the Ashdown Forest within our own eleven acres of woodland, Greenfields provides a complete and unique education preparing each student for life in society. Founded in 1981, the aim of Greenfields is to provide an environment where educational results can be achieved by children of all abilities, and from all cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds. Here they can develop high standards of integrity with confidence in themselves and respect for others. The school strongly encourages and supports interest and proficiency in the Arts. Music, Dance, Art and Drama are taught from an early age and throughout the student's time here. Greenfields graduates have gone on to Further Education and professional careers in art, music, dance, drama, TV and theatre.

Inspection: January 2005: 'Greenfields School enables its pupils to achieve GCSE results that are high in relation to their abilities. English as Foreign Language (EFL) students and pupils with learning difficulties make good progress. The quality of learning is generally good in the upper school where the school?s approach to teaching pupils how to learn (study technology) enables them to achieve increasingly high standards. Pastoral care and the provision that is made for moral and social development are good. A very positive ethos is evident throughout the school. Though most of the teaching is sound and that in the nursery and sixth form is good, the quality of teaching in reception and in modern foreign languages in years 7 to 9 is unsatisfactory. Appraisal, professional development arrangements and the management of the lower school are unsatisfactory.'

Boys' age range: 2 to 18.
