General information

Background: Herstmonceux is a Church of England primary school for children aged four to 11 years. The school is in the centre of the thriving village community of Herstmonceux. It is a one-form entry school and there are seven classes from Reception to Year 6. A new purpose-built sports hall was completed in April 1998 and a covered play area in the summer of 2003. This and other building works have taken place, enhancing the facilities available and making them some of the very best in the local area. Children can take part in a variety of competitive tournaments and matches. These include football, rugby, swimming, netball, athletics and cricket. Children also have the opportunity to learn to play a variety of musical instruments including violin, recorder, clarinet, saxophone and trumpet. The school has been awarded the Basic Skills Quality Mark which acknowledges the contribution the school has made in raising and maintaining standards in numeracy and literacy and for two years the National School Achievement award for the progress its pupils have made. In accordance with its Church foundation and its concern for the best education of local children, the school seeks to provide an atmosphere of friendship and trust, in which emotional needs are recognised and met, consideration shown and tolerance exercised.
