General information

Background: The main school was built in the 1960s and the nursery unit for three and four-year-olds added in the 1970s. The classrooms are 'well-resourced and spacious'. One of three schools inthe large village of Cottingham, Bacon Garth offers pleasant grounds which offer a large play area, football field and nature reserve. A range of extra-curricular activities includes choir, sport, drama and art, and there are also peripatetic violin and cello teachers. There is wheelchair access, and toilets are adapted for physical disability. Four part-time child support assistants give support for children with special educational needs (SEN). Parents and carers are welcome in school and the 'strong' friends of the school group raises funds. The school received the DfEE School Achievement Award for excellence in 2000. 'We are a small friendly school and have a caring approach to each child. We give the best and expect the best!' .
