Background: Balerno High School was opened in 1983 and has, over the years established a reputation for providing pupils with an educational experience, which is effective, enjoyable, and rewarding. The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities during lunchtime, after-school and in the evening. These include Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, scripture union, an electronics club, a publishing group, football, cricket, hockey and volleyball teams, and a skiing club. Music groups in the school include junior and senior singers, a jazz band, and junior and senior wind bands. .
