Background: Currie High is a six year comprehensive school serving the south-west of the City of Edinburgh, Scotland. The school can trace its origins back to the early 17th century. The present building, the sixth opened in 1966, was extensively refurbished between 1996?1998. The school runs a wide range of extra-curricular activities, which are supported by staff, senior pupils and parents. These include chess, mountaineering and photography. The school was awarded a Charter mark in 1999 and was the winner of the Business Excellence Award for public service in 2001. .
