General information

Background: Dalmeny is a non-denominational primary school. The school is set on the edge of Dalmeny Village just to the South of the Forth Rail Bridge and adjacent to the A8000. It is part of the Edinburgh Green Belt and lies in countryside-adjacent to the Dalmeny Estates, near Edinburgh Airport. There are five classes and a small but well equipped gymnasium in the main building, a purpose built nursery building, large sports field with assault course and one of Scotlands community woodlands, which the school has largely helped to restore. There is a well-resourced school library and each classroom is equipped with smart screens for teaching purposes. All the school pupils receive specialist teaching in swimming and gym. The five to 12 year olds also receive teaching in Music and Drama. Instructors visit to teach brass and violin where there is aptitude to 8 year olds and above. The head teacher is one of the four founding members of the Royal Society of Edinburgh Primary mathematics Masterclasses and this work is carried on throughout the year in the school. There are frequent class trips and a regular outdoor residential experience. Extra curricular activities presently include: football for all ages above 5, Recorder, Short Tennis and sword fencing. In the latter area, the school has won the City of Edinburgh schools Fencing Team trophy for the last two years. The school has a strong and supportive School Board and PSA. The school aims to provide positive ethos with care and it also aims to promote high expectations for all together with a happy school experience.
