General information
Background: James Gillespie's High School was established in 1803. It is a thriving multicultural school with more than 30 languages represented. The school is successful in sport, debating, enterprise and mathematics challenge. Facilities include all-weather pitch and playing fields. After-school activities range from team sports, through cookery to Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Pupils may learn musical instrument and play in school ensembles. Extensive extra-curricular programme ranges from classical music to hip-hop and break dancing. School is twinned with township school in South Africa; exchanges with France and United States; numerous trips within Scotland and elsewhere. The school aims to work hard to provide an environment which sustains academic excellence and warm care.
