Background: Riccarton Primary is a non-denominational primary school, which serves the Currie area in southwest Edinburgh and was built in 1963. The building is single-storey with extensive grass and tarmac playground space. There are two main teaching areas, linked by an administrative corridor. There is a well-equipped gymnasium, learning support base, library and separate dining hall with a stage at one end. The school aims to provide a caring and secure environment which promotes the development of self-esteem and worth in all. .
