General information

Background: A six-year comprehensive school, with a history dating from 1128, serving a catchment area in the northwest of Edinburgh; the school first moved to its current site in 1968; since then it has had various refurbishments and additions, the most recent and significant being a PFI refurbishment as a result of which half the school is in new-build, with the other half in refurbished accommodation. All subject departments are now housed in modern suited classrooms and the school has excellent drama, music and physical education facilities. These include a games hall, gymnasium, fitness room, swimming pool, Astroturf and on-campus extensive playing fields. The school has been designed to provide for full disabled access to all parts of the building and campus. The school also has effective links with parents and the local community, and has a very active school board and parent-teacher association. The school encourages a wide programme of extra-curricular activities, including basketball club, dance, debating society, drama club, Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, environment club, fitness club, football and choir. Over-subscribed, with 1.2 applications per place. Ethos: 'The school aims to provide an environment where each individual is encouraged to participate and to achieve to his/her full potential.' .
