Vita et Pax is selective with 10 per cent of admissions being made according to ability, while interviews with parents are also taken into account. A basic skills assessment is given to prospective pupils at four-years-old. The school aims for excellence, with God at the centre of all that it thinks, does and say.
Approach to discipline: 'Rules are few and far between and those adhered to have been agreed by the pupils and therefore should be complied with. Good behaviour is an expectation in the school therefore disciplinary issues are few.'
Uniform: 'Uniform is compulsory and is demanded in all cases.'
Special needs: Special educational needs provision (SEN) is referred to as 'progress studies' where the equivalent of one full time teacher and a part time assistant support the class teacher's in providing for pupils who are not progressing at the same rate as the main body of the class.
Inspection: May 2001: ?Vita et Pax School is a co-educational preparatory school for pupils from four to eleven years old. The school is successful in preparing pupils for entrance tests and examinations to independent senior schools and the results of the national tests at key stages one and two are above the national average. Pupils enjoy coming to school and are keen to learn. The quality of teaching was good or very good in nearly half of the lessons seen and was satisfactory in almost all the others observed. The staff are committed to high standards and hard working. The overall quality of education provided has many good features, but some aspects need attention to ensure that the school?s potential to improve is achieved.?.
