Background: Brentwood Preparatory School was founded in 1892 as part of Brentwood School, which was founded in 1557. The preparatory school occupies its own buildings and grounds distinct from the senior school but close enough to share its chapel, sports hall, heated indoor swimming pool, sanatorium and 'excellent' playing fields and sports facilities. Children also enjoy 'excellent' information and communication technology facilities in the computer suite. Art, design, technology, music and drama 'flourish in a disciplined curriculum' broadly following the national curriculum. Latin and French are also taught. Children enjoy football, rugby, cricket, netball, cross-country, badminton, tennis, gymnastics, rounders, squash, fencing, athletics, swimming and hockey, in addition to an annual drama production. Many pupils receive individual instrumental tuition. All children are selected for the school according to academic ability by means of an entrance examination. Children at Brentwood preparatory school learn in a climate where all of their achievements are highly valued. The school seeks to prepare children not only academically but also morally and socially for the rest of their lives.
