General information

Background: Built in 1966, the school has recently shown 'considerable and sustained improvement'. The buildings are 'not well designed,' but are 'spacious and airy.' There are 'extensive' grounds, with access to a nature reserve. Bursville Junior aims to provide a wide range of sporting activities, including football, netball, touch rugby, athletics and cross country, rounders and volleyball. There are opportunities both within curriculum time, and in a club situation after school. The school has an 'enviable' record of successes in a number of sporting events. Three times in four years in the late 1990s Bursville reached the final of the Clacton Cup in football. Other successes include winning netball leagues, cross country races and cricket competitions. The school supports a Kenyan schoolgirl and has 'close' links with several local homes. It is over-subscribed.
