General information

Background: Colbayns High School is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive foundation school. The school is a member of the Clacton and Harwich Education Action Zone. In January 1953 a new building on the west side of Pathfields Road was opened as the Clacton County Secondary School for Girls. The original building on the east site became the Clacton County Secondary School for Boys. In September 1973 the two schools were amalgamated to form Colbayns High School. The school has good links with its primary feeder schools; the local community, industry and commerce all contribute to the educational experience of its students. The school's accommodation facilities are eight room English suite, one media studies room, 11 room mathematics suite, a multi-purpose ICT room, 10 science laboratories, four room art and design suite, two drama studios, two music rooms, a dance studio, multi-gym, tennis and netball courts, six room modern languages suite, eight room language suite, a study support suite, two assembly halls, a learning support unit, three room computer suite, two health and social care rooms and administration area. The school offers a wide range of opportunities includes the following: sports clubs, choir and other music groups, community projects, outdoor ventures, foreign exchanges and educational trips to Europe, the homework club, Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and other trips and visits organised by the school. The various sporting activities take place at lunchtime and after school. Many youngsters get involved in inter-school sporting competitions and the school has an excellent record of both individual and team successes. The sporting opportunities available include: aerobics, athletics, badminton, basketball, climbing, canoeing, cricket, dance, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby, softball, table tennis, trampolining, unihoc and volleyball. The school has also achieved a Schools Curriculum award in 2000, Investor in People status and Recognition of Quality award. The school aims to create a happy and secure environment where there are equal opportunities for young people to develop to their full potential. .
