General information

Background: The Helena Romanes School and Sixth Form Centre is a co-educational comprehensive school for students aged 11 to 18 years. The school has foundation status. The school began life in 1958, and in 1970 became a fully comprehensive school. Its achievement of the prestigious ?Investors in People? award in July 2002 demonstrated its commitment to continuing professional development. It has a very effective staff development programme, starting with a quality induction programme for new staff. It is strongly committed to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme with its emphasis upon personal achievement, community service and team working. The school is constatnly seeking to develop its facilities as the sixth form grows in size. It now offers a puprpose-built sixth form centre with common room facilities as well as a supervised and separate study area equipped with new computers. The sixth form centre has four seminar rooms used for sixth form lessons. Each student is treated as an individual, having equal opportunities and being encouraged to develop a degree of independence within a caring and supportive community.
