General information

Background: The Cornelius Vermuyden School and Arts College specialises in the visual arts. Pupils that show special artistic ability are fast-tracked from Year 7, taking Art GCSE in Year 9 and AS and A-Level in Years 10 and 11. Artists come into the school, and the community is able to use art facilities. All teachers have laptop computers. Computer suites have interactive whiteboards, digital cameras, scanners and colour laser printers. The school offers opportunities for every pupil to explore their potential. The excellent reputation in delivering a balanced physical education curriculum, combined with its success in competitive sport is recognised by its prestigious Sportsmark Award. The award of the arts college status to the school will result in a major rebuilding programme for the creative arts within the school. At the present time individuals or small groups teach music from two large classrooms and a suite of proactive rooms for instrumental work. The school aims to provide a quality education within a supportive, caring and disciplined environment to pupils of all abilities and to work with and for the local community.
