General information
Background: The Sandon School is situated on the east side of Chelmsford. It serves the local communities of Sandon and Great Baddow and attracts students from a number of neighbouring villages. The buildings are situated in a rural environment, which reflect the combination of tradition and innovation. An impressive range of specialist facilities complements the charm and dignity of the rural setting. These facilities include the Atlas centre, a dedicated library and learning resource area fully equipped with ICT facilities, full size sports hall and gym, multigym, large outdoor pitches, tennis and netball courts, state-of-the-art music technology facilities, seven computer suites for class access, multimedia projectors in many classrooms, outstandingly well equipped technology area, recently refurbished science laboratories, computer controlled library and well equipped drama studios. As a specialist maths and computing College, the school is fortunate to be well equipped with outstanding dramatic, artistic, musical and sporting facilities enabling its students to excel in all aspects of the curriculum. Extra-curricular activities provide an essential element of the school's life. There is an opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities, including athletics, badminton, basketball, cross-country, football, gymnastics, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby and volleyball. It also has a strong tradition in music, with its ensembles and choirs regularly being asked to play in county hall and at various local events. The school annually raises a large amount of money that is given to local and national charities. The school aims to be a caring and supportive community with a positive culture. It allows the fullest possible development of everyone?s intellectual, social, moral and personal potential.
