General information
Background: The school traces its history back to 1885, but has recently been undergoing a number of changes. Hillhead High merged with Woodside Secondary in 1999, and the school is now temporarily located at Berkeley Street while the Hillhead site is being refurbished. This should be completed in August 2001, when the entire school will move back to Oakfield Avenue. Due to the shortage of space at its present location, the school is oversubscribed. However, it is expected that problems of over-subscription will be eliminated by the move in 2001. There are a number of opportunities to become involved in music at the school, varying from a jazz funk band to a ceilidh band. Pupils compete in Glasgow and Scottish competitions in a variety of sports, including rugby union, swimming athletics and cross country running. A number of charities are supported by the school and events prove successful because of the enthusiasm and support from our whole school community. The school aims to be a caring school with high expectations, and a school in which every youngster is respected as an individual and allowed to develop their full potential.
