Fosters links with local, national and international community as part of commitment 'to prepare pupils for the various roles which life and work in our society entail'; aims to help pupils 'make sense of their society' and trains them to 'cope with the demands and pressures which that world imposes'. House system, with four houses. High levels of information and communication technology are in use throughout. Music is thriving; children can sit Associated Board examinations and often take part in many orchestras and festivals. Partnership with parents is 'a major strength"; in 1993, parents established out-of-school service to provide childcare service for pupils. A new teaching block will be constructed in 2007; refectory will be extended substantially and upgraded. Over-subscribed, with six applications per secondary place. Becta ICT in Practice Award (2006); Scottish Qualification Authority Centre of the Year (2005); Education Extra distinction award (2001) in recognition of outstanding commitment to out-of-school hours learning. Investor in People status (2003, 2005). Ethos: 'Renowned not just for its acadmeic excellence, but also for its thriving programmes in sport, outdoor education, music, art and drama. We are a community comprehensive school and our success is founded on placing our pupils and staff at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to helping every child achieve to the very best of their abilities.' .
