General information

Background: St Roch`s Secondary is a six year Catholic comprehensive school of 750 pupils situated in the Garngad area of Glasgow about a mile from the city centre. St Roch`s Secondary School opened on 30th January 1928 as an Advanced Central School to take children from the age of 11 upwards. Its initial role of 500 pupils grew rapidly and several annexes were required. The site of the new school was in the Garngad very close to the location of the ancient hospital dedicated to St Roch, whose work in looking after victims of the plague in Northern Italy in the late 14th century had gained him a firm place as patron of the sick. St Roch`s Secondary School is situated about a mile from George Square. The school lies between Royston Road and Rhymer Street, on the south side of Royston Road directly opposite Royston Square. St Roch`s is proud of its reputation as a caring community, in the heart of the Garngad, where young people are encouraged at all times to give of their best.
