General information

Background: Set in the middle of the village of Bussage on top of the Cotswold Hills, the school was founded in the mid-19th century and moved to its present site in 1982. It is housed in 'bright modern' buildings in the middle of the new development of the village, and is surrounded by its own playing fields, a 'large' wooden adventure play area and a conservation area in 'spacious' grounds. The majority of the pupils are drawn from the village, which has grown markedly over the last 20 years. The 'well researched' curriculum aims to make pupils articulate, confident and sensitive. This is supported by two computers in every classroom and a library used to promote a love of reading. There is a 'notable' policy for helping children with special needs, involving early identification. Physical education takes place on site, and children are also taken swimming. Eight after-school clubs include drama, information technology, sport and dance. Children can learn to play the recorder and percussion instruments. 'Strong' links are sustained with Thomas Keble Secondary through drama productions, and science and technology days. Bussage prides itself on being a community school and shares its facilities with other local schools and groups. Children also raise money for a variety of national and international charities. Parental involvement is encouraged 'at all levels'.
