General information

Background: Cheltenham Bournside School is an oversubscribed 11 to 18 comprehensive school with a large sixth form of 449 students. The school founded as the Technical High School and moved to the current site in the early 1970s. The school has a large site with comprehensive teaching and extra-curricular facilities including: eight specialist computer suites, a digital art suite, a drama studio, three sports hall, a full size Astroturf, a fitness suite and science block. A new teaching block was opened in September 2004 and many of the classrooms are equipped with digital projectors and interactive whiteboards. All teaching staff has a laptop, which can access a wireless network. The school follows the national curriculum in all Key Stages. There a is full range of extra-curricular activities including over 400 sports fixtures each year, including Saturday matches and the school has a strong sporting reputation with many students winning representative honours at county and national level. The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme is popular with students, many achieving the Gold Award before the end of their school careers. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered at the school including: football, netball, tennis, rounders and choir. The school aims to provide an education that enables students to achieve their full potential, to become independent learners and to experience individual and collective success.
