General information

Background: Chosen Hill School is located in the village of Churchdown, midway between Cheltenham and Gloucester, in semi-rural surroundings. The school was opened in 1960 as a selective grammar-technical school. It became comprehensive in 1970, was grant-maintained between 1992 and 1999 and now has foundation status. The school offers a wide range of excellent modern facilities including a large library, 10 science laboratories, a language laboratory, design and technology suite,The school has a brand new Sports Hall which is fully equipped for basketball, badminton, volleyball and 5-a-side football. These facilities are available for community use evenings, weekends and during school holidays. The school also has two medium-sized gyms, a weights room, four rugby pitches, two soccer pitches, two hockey pitches, five netball courts, six tennis courts, an artificial cricket wicket, a grass wicket and three cricket nets. It also uses local facilities such as Plock Court (hockey), Bentham (netball and tennis) for team training as well as recreational facilities such as the Ski Centre, local golf club and Esporta for Sixth Form games. A purpose-built music suite, art rooms and a professional recording studio. It also has a well-equipped hall where it presents acclaimed concerts and drama productions. It produces regional and national sporting representatives, and all pupils have the chance to participate in drama productions throughout the year. The choirs, bands, orchestras and ensembles perform in school and local venues in addition to an annual concert in Gloucester Cathedral and a music tour to in 2005. It has had technology college status since September 1997 and offers state-of-the-art information communications technology. The school achieved the Investors in People award in 1997 and again in 2003 and International Award 2004. The school aims to meet the needs of all students in support of their academic, personal and social potential.
