General information

Background: Built in the late 1960s, the school is a two-storey, flat-roofed building serving part of Churchdown, a large village which is situated mid-way between Gloucester and Cheltenham. It is surrounded by 'extensive' playing fields, three hard surface play areas, an 'off-ground' trail and a 'large' conservation area with pond. The school's heated learner swimming pool meets with 'pleasure and enthusiasm' from pupils. 'Large, bright and well resourced' classrooms and a 'large' library support the curriculum. The school is 'generally' over-subscribed. About a third of pupils have Special Educational Needs, which are identified 'as quickly as possible'. The school is 'justly proud' of its sporting successes in inter-school competitions and 'high' standards in dance mean that pupils participate in the annual Cheltenham Festival of Dance. Extra-curricular musical, sporting and craft activities are 'particularly important' within the 'broad-based' curriculum. An after school club is run in the Infants' school. Links with parents and the community are 'good' and money is raised for various charities. A 'co-operative partnership' between staff and parents is promoted and funds are currently being raised to establish a new Information and Communications Technology suite.
