General information

Background: Opened in 1883; moved to current picturesque site in 1908; occupies Grade II listed building in extensive tree-lined grounds in residential area north of Gloucester. Additions in 1950s and 1960s included classrooms, a science block and gymnasium; second gymnasium, canteen, suite of science laboratories and substantial refurbishment completed in 1996, followed by new sixth-form centre, incorporating study centre and computer rooms in 1997. Sixth-formers take on responsibility by helping with the organisation and leadership of school. Specialist language college status. Recent visits abroad have included France, Germany, Spain, United States, Russia, China, Japan, and South Africa. Language tuition to local community, with classes in Urdu, Arabic and Spanish; link school in Uganda, which is the focus for attempts to raise £10,000 in 2005-2006 to help build new school. Before-school care, from 8am; after-school care, until 5pm. Over-subscribed, with nearly three applications per place. Investor in Careers award; International School status. Artsmark Gold (2004); Sportsmark (1999, 2002); Investor in People status (2002, 2005); DfES achievement award (2002, 2003).
