General information

Background: Pate's Grammar School was founded in 1574 by Richard Pate. The school moved to its new site in 1996, with new campus and excellent facilities, including computer centre, large library, outdoor pursuit centre, and new music, art and drama centres. Sports facilities include sports hall, gym, Astroturf pitch, and climbing wall. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered at lunchtime and after-school. These include music, art, theatre, sport, and outdoor pursuits. For girls the main winter sports are hockey and netball while in the summer activities are tennis and athletics. For boys, the main winter sports are rugby and football with cricket and athletics in the summer term. Basketball, swimming, gymnastics, dance and other sports are also organised. Drama and dance productions provide opportunities for pupils of all ages to be involved in one way or another. Each year there is a junior play and school play, and a number of other productions put on largely by the pupils themselves. Visits to Stratford and local theatres are regularly organised. Specialist language and science college status. Over-subscribed, with four applications per place. Beacon status (2001); Sportsmark Gold.
