General information
Background: The school was established in 1988 after the closure of Westwood's Grammar and Bourton Vale School, serving the central north Cotswolds (and beyond). The Cotswold School is set in 30 acres of parkland and is built in traditional Cotswold stone. £7 Million has been spent on the school facilities over the past five years. Language studies are supported by outstanding ICT facilities including interactive whiteboards in every classroom and five cutting edge ICT suites. Music facilities provided by the school are equally excellent and school sport is supported by a 25m indoor pool, fitness suite, all-weather pitch, dance/drama studio and gym on site. A comprehensive programme of extra curricular activities culminates in superb school productions, concerts and sporting fixtures filling the school calendar. The school achieves outstanding results across the curriculum and has an impressive record in sending students to the top universities including Cambridge, Oxford, Durham, Warwick, Bristol and Edinburgh to read a range of subjects including medicine, law, English, history, geography, natural sciences and mathematics. The school is a Language College offering French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Arabic and Japanese. The school was recently awarded DfES Leading Edge Status, recognising its track record of dramatically and consistently improving results at key stage three, GCSE and A Level. The Cotswold School was singled out in 2002 as an outstanding school in the HMCI report to Parliament. Excellence at A Level is a key strength of the school. The school aims to create a happy and outward looking school, within which all of their pupils work hard to realise their full potential academically, personally and socially. It has a unique atmosphere, with an excellent ethic based on supportive relationships between all involved with the school. The School is Affiliated to the Diocese of Gloucester. The Headteacher was invited to Highgrove to meet HRH Prince Charles as the Leader of an Outstanding Secondary School.
