General information
Headteacher: S Salathiel.
Background: Riverston School was founded in 1926 providing a safe, supportive and caring environment in which to work. The school is built around four Victorian houses.The premises have teaching block for the senior school, providing small teaching rooms, a sports hall with good changing facilities and an excellent purpose-built drama studio, ICT rooms and three libraries . The main hall is well utilized and provides space for both senior and junior assemblies. The school aim to build up the confidence of every pupil to enable them to reach their full potential academically, physically, morally and socially.The Duke of Edingburgh Award Scheme is a programme of practical and adventurous activities that offer young people personal challenges whilst encouraging them to serve others, acquire new skills and experience adventure. There are three standards of achievement -Bronze, Silver and Gold.There is a wide and varied choice of extra-curricular activities run throughout the school in different subject areas: Sports activities include football coaching, rugby, cricket and gymnastics. Science and Maths Club develop pupil?s interest in numbers and furthering the science activities that are not fully covered in the curriculum. Homework club is attended by pupils in the ICT suite where extra research can be carried out to enable higher attainment and develop coursework in a quiet area with one to one help where possible. .
Inspection: March 2004: 'Riverston School provides a secure and supportive community in which pupils fulfil their potential and grow into mature, caring and responsible young people. Good teaching in the senior school enables them to achieve good results at GCSE and to be well prepared for adult life. Pupils benefit from the small size of the school and from very good relationships between different cultural and ethnic groups. Pastoral care is very good.?.
