General information

Background: Rushmore is a two-entry school for children aged three to 11. It is situated on the edge of the Lea Valley Park, an area renowned for its natural beauty along with Hackney, Marshes and the River Lea. It is within walking distance of a wide selection of amenities - a swimming pool, sports centre and museums. The school was amalgamated in September 1995 and the infant and junior departments are housed in different buildings. The infant department is a single-storey building around a central hall, with resource rooms and workrooms. The junior department is housed in a uniquely designed building. There is a computer room and a sound proofed activity room opening off a central airy hall, with an environmental area on one side. The school has excellent physical science and musical facilities. There is a school kitchen, preparing meals on site for both junior and infant pupils, outside is a canopied area, hard play areas and landscaped grounds. It also incorporates a nursery unit with a separate play space and entrance. The playground has extensive new apparatus, trees, planters, seats and activities recently built through fundraising activities, grants and from the school budget. The school has a rich provision of after school clubs for the children, which are very popular. These currently are steel pan, choir, drama, netball, football, tennis, gymnastics, writing, needlework, computer, environmental, cookery, art, dance, science and gymnastics. The school has a strong focus on the performing arts and sport and keenly gives children access and opportunities in this area. The school aims to provide a broad, balanced and relevant and effective curriculum, which actively promotes access to learning and achievement and offers the children the necessary degree of competence and confidence to succeed. The school aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for both pupils and staff and to form a positive working partnership with the local community.
