General information

Background: The school was established in 1890 and is the only 11-19 years non-denominational girls school in Hackney. The school has been a Business and Enterprise College since September 2003. It provides a rich and balanced education both within the classroom and outside with its extensive business and community links. Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 are based at the lower school in Mount Pleasant Lane in a small, secure and safe building. The site has an extensive and ongoing building programme and already houses a newly refurbished learning environment, with an emphasis on ICT. Students in Year 10, 11 and the sixth form are taught in the upper school at Stamford Hill where they benefit from excellent science and technology facilities as well as new business, mathematics and ICT suites. Activities outside the classroom enrich the learning experience. The school offers a range of lunchtime and after-school clubs such as ICT, dance, music and physical education as well as summer schools and Saturday schools. The students have opportunities to perform not only with nationally acclaimed organisations but also with other schools. Students regularly enjoy fieldwork trips all over England as well as visits to museums, galleries and theatres. The school has worked closely with partner primary schools on a number of projects in areas such as business, ICT and art. The school aims to offer a coherent and challenging learning experience which enables all girls to achieve.
