General information

Headteacher: Sallie Salvidant, appointed in September 1993.

Staff: 29 (men 1, women 28).

Background: Founded on this site in 1958; urban setting; recently rebuilt with modern extensive facilities; final phase of new building of music, drama and learning enrichment rooms; specialist teaching rooms, wireless networked laptops. Recent school achievements include: prize-winners in the TES autobiography competition 2004; hosted national SATIPS prep schools' art exhibition in 2006; sang in the finals of music for youth festival 2002 and 2003; participants in the IAPS national netball tournament finals at Roedean school, placed in 2005; participants in the IAPS swimming championships at Crawley 2006, under-11s placed third in the country; participants in Bazuka national swimming championship, placed in 2005 and 2006; won the London schools swimming championship; medal winner in the British schools gymnastic competition 2005 and 2006; participants in the Middlesex kwik-cricket tournament. The school raised £3,607 for charity during 2005/2006. 'The school aims to identify and foster every child's abilities and talents, encouraging her to become a self-motivated learner and a confident communicator; to help each child reach her potential and to inspire her to achieve her personal best in every subject by providing a broad and enriched curriculum which encourage a love of learning that goes beyond what is taught; to maintain a happy, atmosphere by encouraging self-discipline, respect and consideration for others and a sense of community.' .

Approach to discipline: Children write code of conduct and bullying policy through elected school council and regular full-school meetings.

Uniform: Green coat with zip-in/out sleeves, navy skirt, tartan check shirt, green sweatshirt, tartan summer dress.

Special needs: One full-time, three part-time teachers. Learning enrichment department includes support for able under-achievers, and pupils with dyslexia, dyxpraxia etc.

Inspection: November 2004: 'Pupils achieve high standards and make rapid progress in their learning. Their attainment in national tests is good for their abilities. They reach very high standards in their personal development. The very good collaborative working of staff in supporting the development of individual pupils is a key element in the success of the school. The very good teaching and wide variety of activities confer considerable benefit on all pupils. The school has few weak features.'
