General information

Background: The school is a mixed 11 to 16 visual arts school located just north of the Thames by Wandsworth Bridge. The school is popular and has received a number of awards including quality in study support and school improvement. The Resource Centre is open and available to staff who accompany or provide permission for the pupils to access the library. After school, students may use the Resource Centre for study and research. The Resource Centre stocks a range of non-fiction, curriculum-based books and variety of reading books to suit all tastes, from horror to romance. The Resource Centre also has a large suite of computers, providing access to the Internet for curriculum-area research. There are drama clubs in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 anyone can join in no matter what their ability, only a keen interest and enthusiasm are required. Students also have the opportunity to explore more technical aspects of theatre. The school aims to develop a critical understanding of a range of media texts, exploring the ways in which they are read and understood by different audiences; to develop a critical awareness of media representations of individuals, groups and issues; to encourage awareness of the debates surrounding the role of media in society; to use media language and terminology in an appropriate manner and enable students to acquire practical skills (storyboarding, producing videos, making magazines and so on).
