General information

Background: Origins in Whitelands College School, founded in 1842, which became Lady Margaret in 1917; three listed Georgian houses located in Parson's Green; the oldest, Belfield House, dates from school's opening date, with Elm House added in 1937 and Henniker House in 1951. The school was named after the Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII, founder of St John?s and Christ?s Colleges, Cambridge, and a benefactress of education. New hall and gymnasium built in mid-1960s and new technology building opened in 1994; further building programme to accommodate increase to three forms of entry completed in 1997. Easy to reach by public transport; very pleasant working conditions, with attractive landscaped garden and netball and tennis courts. Extra-curricular sports clubs are open to all pupils regardless of experience or ability. Inter-school fixtures and inter-house competitions are a regular feature of the sports programme. The school has a variety of music groups designed to encompass musicians of all standards.Specialist mathematics and computing college status from June 2003. After-school care, from 5.30pm. Over-subscribed, with more than seven applications per place. DfES achievement award (2001). It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to its pupils.
