General information

Background: The school is situated on three split sites on St Peter's Road, parallel to the A316. The oldest part of the school is more than 150 years old and the newest building dates from 1970, with a new hall built in 1997. The site for Key Stage 1 pupils has a conservation area, whereas the site for Key Stage 2 pupils has a greenhouse, and each site has its own playground. Although there is no playing field, children play in friendly football matches, compete in local authority athletics events, and usually do 'very well' in the local swimming gala. Outside the core curriculum the school offers other activities to broaden the areas of learning. For example, music is 'highly valued' with music and drama productions each term. Lunchtime clubs are run by parents and teachers pupils take part in school journeys and visits, and older children may take part in outdoor activities such as orienteering. The Parent-Teacher Association is 'very active' in supporting the school. A special educational needs co-ordinator is available to work with the class teacher to tackle any problems pupils may have. The school aims to 'promote children's full academic, personal, spiritual, moral and social development, thus enabling them to fulfil their potential'. .
